Raising Kingdom Kids

First, this is not to condemn or shame.

Every parent has and will make mistakes and must receive grace for the past mistakes as well as grace for future parenting.

Our goal is to raise our kids to graduate them to:

  1. Operate in this world successfully
  2. Operate in our Father’s kingdom and prosper

Many raise their children according to:

  1. Natural or carnal wisdom
  2. Parent’s comfort
  3. Child’s comfort
    1. It takes complete faith in the word to follow what it says about child raising.
    2. Using the principles in the bible will always work.

Boundaries With Kids

"As we did workshops on our original Boundaries material one thing became obvious to us, adults with boundary problems had not developed those problems as grown-ups. They had learned patterns early in life and then continued those out-of-control patterns in their adult lives, where the stakes were higher."

The sections of development we will cover is:

1.       Birth to Self-aware  (0 - 14 months)

2.       Self-aware to Puberty  (14 months - 10)

3.       Puberty to Teen  (10 - 14)

4.       Teen to Adult  (14 - 18)

1 Timothy 3:1-7 NAS 1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.  2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), 6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

STAGE 1:   Birth to Self-aware  (0 - 14 months)

Understand, that newborn child is not born with good that gets corrupted but they are born into the body of fallen man.

  • In short they have a natural pull towards rebellion.

Proverbs 22:15 NAS Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.

  • Foolishness
    • (Heb.) to be perverse
    • (NAS Hebrew Lexicon) One who despises wisdom, mocks when guilty, is quarrelsome and who is licentious.
  • Child
    • (Heb.) The age of infancy to adolescence.
  • The rod of
    • (Heb.) A stick for punishing
  • Discipline
    • (Heb.) To chastise, (with blows)

The child must me trained to constrain themselves from giving in to the natural pull and ways.

Proverbs 22:6 NKJV Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

  • Train up
    • (Heb.) Literally; to narrow. Figuratively; to constrain as a bit does to a horse.

Proverbs 29:15 ESV The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

With that said, training from birth to being aware of wrong consists of a tap on the diaper and being told no no.
