Exposing Unbelief

Unbelief = Lack of Faith

Mark 9:23 NKJV "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."

Matthew 13:54-58 NAS "He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers? "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? "And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household." And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief."

"Familiarity Breeds Contempt"

►   Definition:

  • The longer one knows someone, the more likely that he or she will discover negative things about the other person.
  • Some determine worthiness or ability based off of perceived piety or perfection of performance.
  • No matter how joyful or respectful an acquaintance starts it will begin to digress in both as perceived lack of perfection is shown.

Jesus could do no miracles because they knew the natural side of Him.

  • Matthew 16:13-19 NAS "Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"  And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"  Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.  "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."

Instead of looking at what has been done and maintained, the critic will look at what has had to be learned through the learning curve growth process.

  • This is especially prominent as a ministry that is emerging into something that has been lost since around 313 AD.

What causes unbelief & how to overcome it:

  1. Know the word to have understanding
    1. Much of the church only knows rules.
  2. Know how to determine biblical doctrine
    1. Does it violate something in the bible?
    2. Ask yourself, “Is it possible?”
    3. Can’t throw out what is good because it could be used bad.
  3. Phobic fear that you’re going to be deceived
    1. This comes from the “gnat strainers”.
    2. You can’t guard yourself from what is wrong by only handling what is wrong.
  4. "Love hopes all things"
    1. Learn to rejoice over someone’s "God stuff".

Matthew 17:18-21 NKJV "And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

2 Corinthians 5:16 TPT "So then, from now on, we have a new perspective that refuses to evaluate people merely by their outward appearances. For that’s how we once viewed the Anointed One, but no longer do we see him with limited human insight."
