Evaluating Repercussions

What does the term “Fear of the Lord” mean?

  • Are we to be afraid of God?

Proverbs 1:7a The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge

Proverbs 9:10a The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom

Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Proverbs 16:6b By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

The bible used the term “Fear of God” or “Fear of the Lord” over 300 times.

The love of God and the fear of the Lord are not mutually exclusive.

  • It is love to help someone see the repercussions of their actions.

Jude 22-23 NKJV 22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction = (with discernment)23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

“Why do you preach on these seeming negative things fairly often Pastor Bob?”

  • I am called to bring you to maturity which starts with a solid base.
  • Once this happens you’ll blossom into what you’re called to do.
    • Ephesians 4:11-13 NAS 11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

A good definition of the fear of the Lord is:

  • The respect filled evaluation of the repercussions of everything I do
    • Some did not grow up with repercussions of their actions

The fear of the Lord is our anchor when the storms of temptation hit our lives.

Philippians 2:12-13 NAS 12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear (an alarm or exceeding fright) and trembling (a literal dreadful & terrifying shaking); 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

  • What do you do with offense when you fearfully evaluate what it will do to you?
  • How to you respond to wanting to hate someone that has done something horrible to you evaluating the spiritual repercussion.
  • How open are you to the truth about yourself knowing that if you reject truth you will start a blinding process that could end you up in hell?

So many think God’s grace will save them from the repercussions of their unrighteous actions.

  • Grace gives you unlimited forgiveness
    • Grace does not:
      • Nullify the legal agreement you made with the enemy
      • Remove the demonic that came in through the legal agreement
      • Cover you when your unrepentant and continuing in sinful behavior and actions.

Where is that place where YOU step out of grace?

  • I don’t know but why live in the danger zone

Hebrews 10:26-27 AMP 26 For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward]. 27 [There is nothing left for us then] but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition [to God].

Common danger statements from Christians

  • I don’t have to go to church
    • You can have the best Nascar car, you can be the best basketball player, etc. and if you never get on the track or the court you are of no value.
  • It’s doesn’t matter where I go to
