Changing the World with Purpose

I.                    What is Purpose and Why is it Important?

1.     Purpose is your reason for existence.  It is that which you were designed for.

2.     Two of the most common questions that the devil is going to come at you with are: “Who are you?” and “Why are        you?”

3.       Purpose is the answer to your “Why are you?”.

            4.       People with purpose live with passion.

5.       People with purpose bring change to the world.

6.       People with purpose push through hard times.

II.                  Why, How, and What

1.       Our purpose should be our why.

            2.       A lot of people don’t consciously know WHY they are doing what they do.

3.       Some have a why, but it is the wrong why.

Play video from beginning until 3:54.  It is soon after he is handed the new microphone.  I will end it when he says “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”

4.       When we have the right WHY behind WHAT we do and HOW we do it, we change the world.

5.       With no WHY, we learn how to behave, but not how to become.

III.               Some examples of “Why” I have seen in Christianity

1.       “My pastor says to.” “My Bible says to.”

2.       “God will be mad at me if I don’t.”

3.       “I was always taught this way.”

4.       “I need to fulfill my Christian duties.”

5.       “I want other people to think highly of me.”

6.       “I don’t want to get judged.”

IV.               4 Types of Purpose

1.       Eternal Purpose:  Why do you exist?

                               i.      To know and be known, by God.

ii.      To know and be known, by others.

2.       Earthly Purpose: Why are we on the earth?

                                      i.      Establish the Kingdom of God on the Earth.

3.       Personal Purpose: What is unique about you for the world?

                                      i. What are your specific gifts and callings?

ii.      How are you personally supposed to impact the world?

4.       Seasonal Purpose: What are you supposed to do right now?

                                   i.     What are you supposed to be doing right now?

ii.      Be faithful in right now.

V.                 Saying Yes to Purpose.

1.       Your yes is the strongest no that you have.

2.       Saying no never filled anyone up.

3.       Yes takes you somewhere.  No keeps you from somewhere.

4.       When we say yes to light, we are saying no to darkness.

VI.               Tips to Changing the World with Purpose

1.       Remind yourself of your purpose constantly.

2.       Develop Consistency.  Be faithful.

3.       Don’t do it alone.

4.       Live in the present and learn to enjoy it.

VII.            When saying the sinner’s prayer is the main goal of Christianity:

1.       Churches have one night stands.  No relationship after the prayer is said.

2.       We develop escapist mentalities.

3.       We miss the opportunity to build the Kingdom.

Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV 6 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [h]moves on the earth.”

Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. [d]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 6:33 NKJV 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Romans 14:17 NKJV 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
