New Season, New Things

2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NAS Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

¤ God has made the natural seasons to remove the dead where then new springs from it.

¤ Spiritual seasons also bring newness.

¤ There is a place in our life when we say, “I am not the person of yesterday.”

  • Then we must refuse to tether ourselves to the past

  • We also must begin to recognize ourselves and others by the new glory

2 Corinthians 3:18 NASB But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

  • Transform (Dictionary):

  1. to change in form, appearance, or structure; metamorphose.

  2. to change in condition, nature, or character.

  • When God does a work in someone through the course of a season they are completely transformed or made into a new person.

¤  We limit ourselves because we only see the failures and pains of the past season.

¤ Joshua did not recognize the new season when the COI were defeated at Ai

  • Joshua 7:6, 10-11a NAS 6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until the evening, both he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads. 10 So the Lord said to Joshua, "Rise up! Why is it that you have fallen on your face? 11 "Israel has sinned...

Jeremiah 1:5-8 NAS 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations." 6 Then I said, "Alas, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth." 7 But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak. 8 "Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you," declares the Lord.

¤  One of the biggest reasons we reject who we are today is because we remember the spankings, pains and failures of the learning process.

  • The pain of spankings is because we cannot be taught in that area, we must be trained

¤  For us to benefit from the new us and the newness in others we must view them not from the flesh or natural.

Mark 6:1-6 NAS 1 Jesus went out from there and came into His hometown; and His disciples followed Him. 2 When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands? 3 "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. 4 Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household."  5 And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He wondered at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching.

  • Notice that Jesus didn’t reject them but He went through their towns teaching so they could recognize that He wasn’t the same person they previously knew.
