Heaven's Culture

1 John 4:16-18 NAS 16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

Jesus came preaching the kingdom and demonstrating the kingdom

John 8:1-11 NAS 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court,  4 they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 "Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?" 6 They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. 7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."  8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.  10 Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"  11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."

Leviticus 20:10 NAS If there is a man who commits adultery with another man's wife, one who commits adultery with his friend's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Deuteronomy 22:22a NAS If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman

There is a demonic spirit called a religious spirit

  • It mirrors true Christianity so well

  • Religion uses fear of failure as a whip to chastise the hungry for God

    • 1 John 4:18 NAS There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

Why was religion after Jesus so much?

He was an assault to their way of thinking

There is a thing that happens when religion gets on people

  • They began to be more interested in the law than they do God’s loving relationship with people

  • Jesus ate with sinners

    • He didn’t sit there with a frown hoping everyone saw that they were wrong for having fun sinning

    • He laughed with them, didn’t recoil from their uncleanness

    • He was more interested in them developing a relationship with the Father than pointing out their uncleanness.

BTW, how did they know to go find this woman “in the act”?

  • She was probably notorious for this and they were angry

The “but Jesus told her to go and sin no more” becomes the focus over the miracle of forgiveness offered to this woman

If we’re not careful our big buts cause us to miss the point of the amazing gospel of good news

When relationship stops the only thing we have is rules

  • We get after the Catholics for their repeating of prayers and liturgical ceremony but when relationship is gone we go to the same system of creating rules that we can follow

    • This is to appease our conscience.

Relationship is hard. It has risks and takes work to maintain

  • Rules are easy because we gravitate to the ones that we can do.

    • This is why the scribes and pharisees held to part of the law and not the other

Go at your level

  1. Words of encouragement

  2. Give love

  3. Give healing

  4. Deliver people from demons, depression, anxiety
