Thank You God for Everything!

Every situation gives us the option of two different views and reactions

Thankfulness is a matter of perspective

  • If you would give a rich kid a candy bar or a simple toy they would resent it.
  • If you would give a poor kid the same thing they would think heaven’s blessings opened on them.

Ungratefulness brings negative feelings of unforgiveness, hurt feelings, resentment, etc.

These tie us to the past and hold us from our future.

Dr. Caroline Leaf--Who Switched Off My Brain Toxic thoughts are thoughts that trigger negative and anxious emotions, which produce biochemicals that cause the body stress. They are stored in your mind, as well as in the cells in your body.

Emotions are involved in every thought we build, ever have built and ever will build. In fact, for every memory you make, you have a corresponding emotion attached to it, which is stored in your brain, and as a photocopy in your body's cells. We'll look at the science of how this works more closely later, but the key is to understand that emotions are attached to thoughts. These emotions are very real and link your thoughts to the reaction in your body and mind. This is called the psychosomatic network. They can surface even years after an event has occurred, when the memory of that event is recalled.

Romans 1:21 AMP Because when they knew and recognized Him as God, they did not honor and glorify Him as God or give Him thanks. But instead they became futile and godless in their thinking [with vain imaginings, foolish reasoning, and stupid speculations] and their senseless minds were darkened.

Colossians 3:15-17 NIV 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him

I have chosen to be thankful about past things instead of looking on what happened to me.

  • My bio father signed adoption papers
  • I was shoved in a ditch every year during track
  • I was teased
  • I had to live with my aunt and uncle during a time when my folks split up
  • We would drive by each of them riding around with a boy or girl friend and I would hear how if they had time to be with them they should be with their own kids.
  • I got moved from to a new school that was way ahead in learning and I fell behind.

Here’s how I look at all this:

  • How do I know which of these was the catalyst that caused me to search for God
  • I have a dad that God said He placed me under and showed my his genealogy to cover me to be what I am.
  • Because of learning how to handle humiliation I have possessed a calling that many could not possess because of pride.
  • I am happy almost all the time because I don’t have regrets that cause depression
  • God has rewarded me with an amazing family and church family that I value highly.

  • Having the wrong focus will cause us to look at what we don’t have instead of the awesome things that God had done for us.

Psalms 106:21-25 NKJV 21 They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, Awesome things by the Red Sea. 23 Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach, To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them. 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe His word, 25 But complained in their tents, And did not heed the voice of the Lord.

  • “Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighborhood of despair. Even when all doors remain closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful!”
