Description

When I preach I feel I lose people unless I can show them a payoff that would make the investment worth doing.

I hesitate to teach on the God kind of love because when you get down to it there is to be no view of a payoff.

1 John 4:19 NAS We love, because He first loved us.

  • Now, obviously, everything God says to do has a payoff
    • But if you look at the payoff in view of the investment it will never look like enough

John 13:34 ESV A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Look at the progression of this from John 15:12-17 NAS:

  1. 12 "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
  2. 13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
  3. 14 "You are My friends if you do what I command you.
  4. 15 "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
  5. 16 "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
  6. 17 "This I command you, that you love one another.

What is the fruit that remains? - Galatians 5:22-23a AMP 22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, 23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence).

I don’t know anyone that chooses to love at God’s level without having it worked into them.

How do we get this fruit worked in us? - John 15:1-11 NAS 1 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.  2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.  3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.  4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.  5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.  6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.  7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.  9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.  10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.  11 "These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

To love like God we must view everything as He views it.

Everyone came from God and God loves everyone and wants the best for everyone no matter what they’ve done.

We will need to stop viewing things based on our own proclivities.

Here is God’s love - 1 Corinthians 13:5 NAS it does not seek its own. NLT It does not demand its own way.

Start placing yourself in God’s shoes when you enter any situation from here on.

God told me to love my wife as Christ loved the church as in Ephesians 5:27.

  • That required of me to “lay my life down” or die to me
    • That meant I had to stop only viewing things through my anger, my offense, my wants, my impatience, my wounds, my safety

Matthew 5:43-48 NAS 43 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'  44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?  47 "If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?  48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  • you may be (Strong’s): ginomai (ghin'-om-ahee); to cause to be; (reflexively) to become (come into being)
