Description

As the body of Christ we are covenanted with Jesus and with others in the body.

New Testament Covenant

  • Luke 22:20 NAS And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.

Communion is remembering God’s covenant with us

  • 1 Corinthians 11:25b-26 NAS 25b do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

As we take communion and eat together as believers we are remembering the covenant we have with each other.

  • Acts 2:46 NAS Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart

As we commit to Jesus He assigns us to a local body and we become a member of a universal body.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NAS 12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
  • Be careful of who we covenant with
  • God held to a covenant that Joshua made even to the time of David

If one body part allows a substance in doesn’t the whole body feel it?

  • The same applies in a spiritual body.

Hygiene (Dictionary): conditions or practices conducive to maintaining health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness.

Sickness & Disease are never of God!

Scriptures on cleanliness:

2 Peter 2:9-10 NKJV 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries

2 Peter 2:18 KJV For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error

God built in to our bodies the ability to fight off sickness and disease.

  • An unhealthy body will not fight off intrusions very well
    • Here are church viruses: suspicion, gossip, uncontrolled thoughts, minor false doctrines
    • Here are church diseases or lethal sicknesses: Destructive words, unforgiveness, sin, judgement, accusation, rebellion against authority (especially church authority), major false beliefs

As those that we’ve covenanted with commit sin and all viruses and diseases into the body we all feel it.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:24b-26 NAS 24b But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, 25 so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
  1. God is specific on how to handle church “sicknesses”

Sins punishable by death in the Old Testament

  • They are handled this way because these specific sins lose demonic things into a body
    • Deuteronomy 22:22 AMP If a man is found lying with another man's wife, they shall both die, the man who lay with the woman and the woman. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.
    • See: >Things punishable by death in the bible<

New Testament doctrinal purity was very important:

  • 1 Corinthians 5:11-13 NKJV 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner — not even to eat with such a person. 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person.
  • Titus 3:9-11 AMP 9 But avoid stupid and foolish controversies and genealogies and dissensions and wrangling about the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile. 10 [As for] a man who is factious [a heretical sectarian and cause of divisions], after admonishing him a first and second time, reject [him from your fellowship and have nothing more to do with him], 11 Well aware that such a person has utterly changed (is perverted and corrupted); he goes on sinning [though he] is convicted of guilt and self-condemned.
  • 2 John 10-11 AMP 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine [is disloyal to what Jesus Christ taught], do not receive him [do not accept him, do not welcome or admit him] into [your] house or bid him Godspeed or give him any encouragement. 11 For he who wishes him success [who encourages him, wishing him Godspeed] is a partaker in his evil doings.
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15 AMP 14 But if anyone [in the church] refuses to obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed. 15 Do not regard him as an enemy, but simply admonish and warn him as [being still] a brother.

New Testament handling of disagreements:

  • 1 Corinthians 6:1-4 NAS 1 Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? 3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, matters of this life? 4 If then you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?

Procedures within the church

The top priority is to maintain peace.

Be specific

Be open to spiritual people deciding your situation if there is a disagreement

  • $$ don’t go to secular court/judge angels

Passing gas in church

  • How can someone be ministered to by the Holy Spirit when they’re fighting to breath.

Any noises that disrupt

  • Betty clacking her teeth

It’s not for stuffy etiquette but for and atmosphere where the Holy Spirit is honored

> Things punishable by death in the bible <:

  • Serving other gods

1. Whoever sacrifices to any god but Yahweh shall be utterly destroyed.

20"Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to the LORD only, shall be utterly destroyed. (Ex. 22:20)

2. Sacrifices to Molech - death by stoning.

2"Say to the people of Israel, Any man of the people of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, who gives any of his children to Molech shall be put to death; the people of the land shall stone him with stones. (Lev. 20:2)

3. Whoever has gone and served other gods shall be stoned to death.

(Deut. 17:2-5) 2 "If there is found among you, within any of your towns which the LORD your God gives you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, in transgressing his covenant, 3 and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden, 4 and it is told you and you hear of it; then you shall inquire diligently, and if it is true and certain that such an abominable thing has been done in Israel, 5 then you shall bring forth to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you shall stone that man or woman to death with stones.

4. If someone tries to entice you to serve other gods, you shall stone him to death.

(Deut. 13:6-10) 6 "If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 some of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, 8 you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him; 9 but you shall kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. 10 You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

5. If you hear that someone has drawn others out of the city to serve other gods, you shall investigate. If it is true you shall put them to the sword.

(Deut. 13:12-15) 12 "If you hear in one of your cities, which the LORD your God gives you to dwell there, 13 that certain base fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of the city, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which you have not known, 14 then you shall inquire and make search and ask diligently; and behold, if it be true and certain that such an abominable thing has been done among you, 15 you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, destroying it utterly, all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.

  • Mediums, wizards & sorceress shall be stoned to death.

(Lev. 20:27) "A man or a woman who is a medium or a wizard shall be put to death; they shall be stoned with stones, their blood shall be upon them."

(Ex. 22:18) "You shall not permit a sorceress to live.

  • You shall not take the name of God in vain.

(Lev. 24:16) He who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him; the sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

  • Working on the Sabbath is punishable by death.

(Ex. 31:15) Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be put to death.

  • Concerning rebellious children.

(Ex. 21:15) "Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.

(Ex. 21:17) "Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death.

(Lev. 20:9) For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his blood is upon him.

(Deut. 21:18-21) 18 "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they chastise him, will not give heed to them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, 20 and they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.' 21 Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

  • Killing or Murder

(Ex. 21:12) "Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death.

(Ex. 21:14) if a man willfully attacks another to kill him treacherously, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.

(Ex. 21:29) if the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past, and its owner has been warned but has not kept it in, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.

(Lev. 24:17) who kills a man shall be put to death.

(Num. 35:16-21) 16 "But if he struck him down with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. 17 And if he struck him down with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. 18 Or if he struck him down with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. 19 The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death. 20 And if he stabbed him from hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died, 21 or in enmity struck him down with his hand, so that he died, then he who struck the blow shall be put to death; he is a murderer; the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meets him.

  • Sexual sins

Adultery - (Lev. 20:10) "If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.

(Deut. 22:22) "If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall purge the evil from Israel.

Bestiality - (Ex. 22:19) "Whoever lies with a beast shall be put to death.

Incestuous sins - (Lev. 20:11-16, 20-21) 11 The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall be put to death, their blood is upon them. 12 If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be put to death; they have committed incest, their blood is upon them. 13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them. 14 If a man takes a wife and her mother also, it is wickedness; they shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you. 15 If a man lies with a beast, he shall be put to death; and you shall kill the beast. 16 If a woman approaches any beast and lies with it, you shall kill the woman and the beast; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them. 20 If a man lies with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness; they shall bear their sin, they shall die childless. 21 If a man takes his brother's wife, it is impurity; he has uncovered his brother's nakedness, they shall be childless.

Not being a virgin at marriage - (Deut. 22:13-14. 20-21) 13 "If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and then spurns her, 14 and charges her with shameful conduct, and brings an evil name upon her, saying, 'I took this woman, and when I came near her, I did not find in her the tokens of virginity,' 20 But if the thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young woman, 21 then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has wrought folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.

Rape - (Deut. 22:25-27) 25 "But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. 26 But to the young woman you shall do nothing; in the young woman there is no offense punishable by death, for this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor; 27 because he came upon her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her.

  • Kidnapping

(Ex. 21:16) "Whoever steals a man, whether he sells him or is found in possession of him, shall be put to death.

(Deut. 24:5) "If a man is found stealing one of his brethren, the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.
