Marilyn – God’s intent for His children, to bless and prosper them

They earth blessed system: Genesis 1:28 AMP And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

The earth cursed system: Genesis 3:17-19 AMP 17 And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life. 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.

God & mammon

Matthew 6:24 AMP No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).

In the plan of God, tithing & wealth are so closely connected that in the Hebrew language they both come from the same root and all tie together:

  • 6237 `asar (aw-sar'); give a tenth; to tithe
    • 6238 `ashar (aw-shar'); to accumulate; to grow or make rich
      • 6239 `osher (o'-sher); wealth; riches.
        • 6240 `asar (aw-sawr'); ten
          • 4643 ma`aser (mah-as-ayr'); from OT:6240; a tenth; especially a tithe

THE TITHE IS DEDICATED AND NOT OURS.

Leviticus 27:30-33 NLT 30 "One tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy (not average, to be revered). 31 If you want to buy back the Lord's tenth of the grain or fruit, you must pay its value, plus 20 percent. 32 Count off every tenth animal from your herds and flocks and set them apart for the Lord as holy. 33 You may not pick and choose between good and bad animals, and you may not substitute one for another. But if you do exchange one animal for another, then both the original animal and its substitute will be considered holy and cannot be bought back."

 Tithe is covenant connector

Christian Harris Testimony

The tithe and old testament offerings are different than our new testament offerings.

  • The offerings went to the temple priests
  • The tithe is non-reproductive
    • It is not a seed

TITHING TIMELINE

  1. Tree of the knowledge of good & evil - Genesis 2:16-17 NAS 16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."
  2. First fruits offering & dedicated offerings - Proverbs 3:9-10 NAS 9 Honor the Lord from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.
  3. Jericho - Joshua 6:17a NLT Jericho and everything in it must be completely destroyed as an offering to the Lord.
  4. Thing you dedicate to give to the Lord - Ananias & Sapphira

Tithe isn’t even ours, it’s not seed, it’s dedicated.

  • When we have any connector to our tithe we only reap the ability to control only
  • Matthew 6:2 & 5 NAS 2 "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

When the tithe and our life is God’s HE will rebuke the devourer when it comes to consume.

Malachi 3:8-12 NAS 8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. 9 "You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you!  10 "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the Lord of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. 11 "Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes," says the Lord of hosts. 12 "All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land," says the Lord of hosts.

Honor – tithe check needs to be first.

You can tithe in faith and receive the benefits but you won’t maintain or keep the benefits because in your dishonor you’ve let a devouring enemy in

Marilyn: Malachi 3:13-15 NAS 13 "Your words have been arrogant against Me," says the Lord. "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against You?' 14 "You have said, 'It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept His charge, and that we have walked in mourning before the Lord of hosts? 15 'So now we call the arrogant blessed; not only are the doers of wickedness built up but they also test God and escape.'"

Julie: Tithing is the heart expose before the outpouring (sheep & goats)

Because God honors His word or sowing and reaping we reap a harvest.

  • But because we have other areas the harvest gets eaten by the devourer.

Haggai 1:5b-6 NKJV 5b Consider your ways! 6 You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.

THE TITHE

Serving God with our Finances

10/11/15

Matthew 6:33 AMP:  But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom

and His righteousness ( His way of doing and being right), and then all these things

taken together will be given you besides.

I. The Earth’s Two Financial Systems – Serving God or Serving Mammon

Matthew 6:24 AMP:  24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love

the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot

serve God and mammon ( deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).

   A. Original intent, God’s system of provision, THE BLESSING System

            1. In the beginning His system was the only way of doing things in the earth.  This was heaven’s system

            as it is today.

            2. The very first thing after man came into being, His creator informed him of his intentions for him, His plan for             man with The Blessing:

Genesis 1:28 AMP:  And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth,

and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the

fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

                   1. be fruitful and multiply – in Hebrew this means to increase and have abundance in every way—and to be continually                               increasing and having abundance

                   2. replenish – in Hebrew means to fill up, perpetually renew, supply, and keep full

            3. His original intention was to empower man to prosper and increase by THE BLESSING, by listening

to and obeying His Word to them.  He placed man in a garden where he would not only be abundantly

provided for, but through his abundance and increase he would:

                        a. Serve God

                        b. Serve man

            4. Here we see God’s heart not only for Adam but for all mankind:

                        a. His desire for us is Blessing.  God is a Blesser, and He wants us blessed.

                        b. He wants to be our Provider, as we seek Him and His Kingdom ways first and obey Him.

                        c. He wants to be our Source with our trust and reliance on Him.

                        c. He wants to be a God to us.

Philippians 4:19 AMP: 19 And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full)

your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

            5. This system of trusting and relying on God for our provision has no sorrow with it, and toiling does      not increase it.  (Toiling=worrying over finances, fearing lack, hoarding and greed, trying to control it all    by ourselves, putting our security in riches, working 3 jobs to get ahead and having no time for family,

           etc.)

Proverbs 10:22 AMP:  22 The blessing of the Lord — it makes [truly] rich, and He adds

no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].

B. The Earth Cursed System – Never His Intention

Genesis 3:17-19 AMP:  And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of

your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground

is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits]of it all the days of your life.

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field.  19 In

the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were

taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.

            1. This earth-cursed system entered into the earth through man believing and acting on satan’s seducing    words rather than believing and acting on God’s Word.

            2. The “seduction” was:

                        a. that God didn’t really have their best interest at heart.

                        b. that God didn’t really mean what He said.

                        c. that they really didn’t need God, that they could work out their own way of doing things.

                        d. This was the introduction or release of the doctrine of humanism in the earth.

            3. This system under the curse brought the first mention of “sorrow and toil”.

   C. As Adam and Eve were given the “choice” to believe God and serve Him and His Blessing System, so are

we today given that same choice.

Matthew 6:33 AMP:  But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom

and His righteousness ( His way of doing and being right), and then all these things

taken together will be given you besides.

            1. If we choose to serve God with our finances and totally disconnect from serving Mammon or the          Babylonian system, we have to seek and find out His Kingdom ways.  Our mind must be renewed with        His “higher thoughts” which will bring about His “higher ways”.

            2. Today we are seeking what His Word says about The Tithe—the starting place of serving God with        our finances, the beginning of the road to increase.  The Tithe is our covenant connection to THE BLESSING system!

II. Tithing is about honoring the Lord with all our hearts.

   A. Tithing is more than a religious routine.

            a. We can put 10 percent of our income into the offering, go through the motions, but not really be

            tithing.

            b. That’s what was happening to the people in Malachi’s day.  They were going through the motions, but        they were not being blessed.  In fact they were living under a financial curse because “honor” was             missing from their tithes and offerings.  How do we know?  By what was coming out of their mouths.

Malachi 3:13-15 NKJV:  13 "Your words have been harsh against Me, "Says the Lord,

"Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against You?'  14 You have said, 'It is useless to serve God;

What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance,  And  that we have walked as mourners

before the Lord of hosts?   15 So now we call the proud blessed, For those who do wickedness

are raised up; They even tempt God and go free.'" .

            c. When we bring out tithe as an act of worship thanking the Lord for all He has done for us & start     claiming our tithing benefits, standing on the Word of God, we activate The Blessing over our lives.
